This month we're celebrating women, let's also talk about roles at home - 6 tips for sharing the work at home.
Running a household and keeping every corner of it tidy and clean is a huge investment of time. Cooking, cleaning and washing the home are usually a combination of activities that a woman is forced to do on top of her daily routine. All this while a woman works 8 (or more) hours and then has the awkward situation of continuing to work at home - since work at home is less often divided among Hungarian families.
How is it that women work much harder than men to create a home?
On the one hand, this cannot be stated so openly, since there are a good number of families where not only one person runs the household, but also the people living with him or her help out. On the other hand, the development of gender roles is, of course, like everything else, the result of a long period of cultural development, the foundations of which must first be sought in our history. But it is no big secret that it is only since the First World War that women have earned money for their work, whereas men have always been paid (also). Women's fundamental rights began to appear in our society much later, even if we are talking about the fact that they did not have the right to vote, nor could they take on leadership roles in public life or in business. And we could go on. This is precisely why women became the creators of the home. But many other things have changed, women have been able to work and family roles are not as sharply divided as they used to be.

But let's forget history for now, it's not always worth looking into the past, let's concentrate on how we can reverse this invisible working tendency or make it more equal!
Tips for dividing work at home
To avoid getting burnt out in the work-home-life triangle, here are some suggestions on how to organise responsibilities in a family.
Let there be well-separated days, with someone always in charge. One good way to do this is to divide the week into days and have a person in charge of each day. This way you can take the burden off each other and maintain cleanliness and order in the long term.
Identify which part of the apartment belongs to whom. If the kitchen and bedroom are yours, your partner should be responsible for the bathroom and living room. These should be done in such a way that you are responsible for the same part of the house every day, so in this case the previous point should be dropped.
Split the day and gradually achieve the end result. If you like to work at your desk in the living room, tidy up your desk before you start. Disinfect the work surface, tidy up any clutter and get to work! And you can clear the rest of the living room when the day is done.
Use postcards! Leave messages for yourself and your partner telling them which areas of the house need cleaning. It's a kindness to yourself and to each other, so you can remind yourselves without any spoken words to remember your daily responsibilities on top of work.
Take it in turns to do the shopping. It can be very cumbersome if you're stuck in traffic after work trying to pick up the dinner ingredients. Schedule it for a Sunday, or split the days between who goes shopping when!
Use cleaning products and dishwashing detergents that you know are good for you and your flea. Choose products that smell good, so you can boost your motivation to clean at home!
