Foundations worth supporting

Let's keep giving after Christmas, to those who need it!

In addition to offering quality and environmentally friendly products, CYCLE also aims to educate. Through our content we aim to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable living, inspiring our customers to make more informed choices. This includes, for example, supporting different organisations!

Although the Christmas holidays are over, let's not forget to give every day of the year. Giving doesn't have to be a seasonal habit, rather it can become a permanent part of our lives, gradually shaping the world for the better.

We have a list of organisations supporting sustainable development that we can heartily recommend.

Greenpeace

Greenpeace is an international organisation operating in 55 countries and has been present in Hungary since 2002. Their history dates back to 1971, when their founders protested against a nuclear explosion on an island in the Arctic, launching what is now a huge movement that can safely be said to have become part of history.

Their aim is to ensure that our country's soil, air and water are clean, and that everyone has access to clean, cheap renewable energy and a healthy environment to live in. They are raising awareness of environmental issues in a visible, courageous and peaceful way, fighting for a liveable future.

Their community is made up of people like us who care about the future of our planet. They see a forest not just as a tree, but as a home, a shared heritage and a future. Optimism drives their vision for the future. They believe that through the courageous actions of millions, they can build a peaceful and green future.

The organisation is financially and politically independent and does not accept funding from government or corporations. Their work is thanks to the thousands of Hungarian donors who regularly support them.

Find out more about them and the funding opportunities here.

WWF Foundation

WWF Hungary started its activities in 1991. Their work also takes into account domestic needs and challenges, with a focus on international conservation objectives.

Their conservation work includes protecting wetlands, especially river and floodplain systems, and natural forests. The Foundation is committed to sustainable, environmentally friendly agriculture and rural development, and to the conservation of protected and endangered habitats and species. Reducing the impact of climate change and promoting environmental awareness are also a priority.

They focus on four key priority areas to protect our national natural assets:

Climate change and energy

Protecting forests

Conservation of rivers and wetlands

Protecting large carnivore species

WWF Hungary's programmes use fieldwork, conservation advocacy and awareness-raising. They work with national parks, conservation authorities, NGOs, educational institutions, businesses and local communities.

You can find out more about them and the funding opportunities here.

Humus Association

The Humus Association was founded in 1995, originally on the initiative of five Hungarian environmental organisations, then called the Waste Workers' Association. To this day, their aim is to promote a low-waste and environmentally conscious lifestyle that is accessible to all and does not require huge investments, but only the right attitude and mindset. The Humus Alliance provides tricks and everyday ideas for young and old, support materials for educators and realistic suggestions for decision-makers.

Their main mission is to prevent waste and promote sustainable consumption and production. Their solutions are designed to revitalise local communities, to bring them together and to build trust. They work in a professionally sound way, taking a holistic approach to all problems.

Some foundations also organise litter picks

In 2010, they became a traditional association, so individuals can now join. The organisation' s core values are equal opportunities and sustainability, regardless of financial or political considerations.

The Humus Association is always looking for new volunteers. Humus aims to work with all those who share their principles and wish to actively participate in the promotion of waste prevention, sustainable consumption and production.

Responsible gastronome

The aim of the Responsible Eater Foundation is to spread the culture of environmentally responsible eating and to support the environmental efforts of domestic restaurants.

They believe that with eco-friendly gastronomic solutions, we can not only make our diets greener and healthier, but also do good for ourselves and the environment.

With loving and engaging public campaigns, easy-to-use tips and delicious recipes, they show how simple it is to be mindful of what you put on your table.

Through our wide range of professional activities, we support environmentally responsible restaurants in implementing measures and communicating their sustainability efforts to their guests.

Their aim is to prove that everyone can be a hero, and that we really can change the world with a single bite!

You can find more information here.

Clean Air Action Group

The Clean Air Action Group was founded in 1997 and since then has provided free environmental advice to residents more than 30,000 times. They are committed to stopping illegal dumping, saving parks and solving other environmental problems. Due to a reduction in grant funding, they are currently only able to provide 20 hours of advice a week and need support from citizens.

With the power of unity and the active participation of their members, they organise successful and mobilising actions. What makes them special is the high quality of their full-time staff, who are highly skilled and diverse in the field of environmental protection.

They are independent of government, party politics and economic interest groups, and their transparency is ensured through publicly available accounts and reports. Regularly audited by the Tax Agency and the State Audit Office, the credibility of our organisation is essential to the success of the work they do.

You can read about their projects and achievements here.

The Hungarian Cycling Club

The Hungarian Cyclists' Club has been committed to the development of cycling since 2002 and currently boasts more than 2,000 members and 18 regional organisations.

Their aim is to make cycling safe for everyone: for those who haven't tried it yet, to cycle with confidence, and for those who already cycle everywhere to enjoy cycling in even more comfort.

Their experts and local groups are campaigning for cycle-friendly roads and new bike storage facilities. They work to promote a cycle-friendly legal environment for cycling and road safety, and to promote and educate cycling through campaigns and events.

As an independent, community and professional organisation, the two main pillars of their work are infrastructure development and awareness raising.

Their successes include the creation of attractive and safe cycling routes in many places, thanks to the suggestions of their experts and regional organisations, and the increasing number of people cycling on them. Their campaigns and events encourage millions to cycle.

Join them and help them in their work to promote cycling!

Foundations for social causes

Last but not least, we would like to mention the foundations that work for social causes.

Organisations working for the homeless

Associations working for the homeless help to improve their quality of life and promote their dignity.

Their services, such as food distribution, the provision of warm clothes and shelters for the homeless, contribute to meeting the basic needs of homeless people.

food distribution

Organisations often organise food distributions

The following associations help homeless people to access educational and employment opportunities, facilitating their social reintegration. Supporting these organisations not only helps on an individual level, but also contributes to reducing social inequalities and creating a more cohesive and empathetic society.

These include, among others, the Budapest Bike Maffia, Food Not Bombs Budapest, Utcáról Lakásba! Association, the Shelter Foundation. But we would also like to mention the Save As Otherwise Rezsó project, where they collect empty chip bags to make blankets and sleeping bags for people in need.

Associations for women and women's rights

Associations for women and women's rights play an important role in improving the social and legal situation of women.

Women's rights organisations help victims of violence and fight to reduce violence.

They also support women in their efforts to integrate into the labour market, fight for equal pay and build their careers.

They fight against discrimination against women, using legal means for equality and justice.

Working with women's communities, mentoring programmes and community events are also part of their work. Supporting such organisations not only benefits women, but also contributes to equality across society.

Child protection organisations

Child protection organisations ensure that children can grow up in dignified and healthy conditions.

The associations' programmes contribute directly to the educational and social development of disadvantaged children. The support and mental health programmes they provide are essential for the recovery of children who have suffered trauma and for maintaining their mental well-being.

Their initiatives and community programmes also help children to become socially involved and to have a fun and fulfilling childhood.

Among the foundations, the Hintaló Foundation, the World Beautiful Foundation, the Amigos for Children Foundation, among others, work for this every day. Find out about their programmes and support them if you can!

Organisations helping shelter and stray animals

These associations not only run shelters, but also rescue, rehabilitate and adopt out stray animals

Animal welfare organisations are actively involved in spay/neuter programmes, helping to reduce overpopulation and the number of animals ending up on the streets

The shelter and stray animal organisations are run by volunteers and rely on donations to carry out their day-to-day tasks.

By supporting them, they contribute to reducing animal cruelty and preserving the dignity of animals in society. Their support gives abandoned and injured animals the opportunity to find a safe and caring home, while promoting responsible animal husbandry.
