With mid-April approaching, it's already time for a big spring cleaning. However, in the gray, rainy weather so far, we wouldn't be surprised if you haven't felt the strength to get started. Now is the perfect time, the nice weather has finally arrived! Did you also think that you can perfectly clean your home with ingredients found in your kitchen, while also being environmentally conscious? In this article, we'll give you some useful tips on how to make your home perfectly clean with the help of vinegar, baking soda, and citric acid.
What can you use vinegar and baking soda for?
Honestly, one article isn't enough to list everything these two miracle cures are good for (we've already dedicated an entire article to the multifunctional effects of vinegar ), so let's take a look at our favorite tips:
Clean out the fridge with them!
When cleaning your refrigerator, there's another reason to use natural cleaning products: you don't want to contaminate the surface where you store your food with various chemicals, right? Vinegar's natural disinfectant properties make it a great solution for this! Just pour a little into a spray bottle, spray the shelves of your refrigerator, and wipe them down. When you're done, add baking soda to a small bowl, which will also neutralize any unpleasant odors in the refrigerator.
Use it to clean mattresses and carpets
First, vacuum the surface you want to clean thoroughly, then take the aforementioned spray bottle of vinegar and spray it on, then sprinkle with baking soda. Let it sit for a few hours, preferably covered. Finally, vacuum thoroughly again and you're done.
Clean the drain!
You can prevent not only possible blockages, but also unpleasant odors with the following tip. To start, pour half a packet of baking soda into the drain, then 3-4 deciliters of vinegar. Wait until the mixture stops fizzing, then pour one liter of hot water down it. After a quarter of an hour, rinse it with cold water.
The windows can't be left out either.
Cleaning your windows is an essential part of spring cleaning. You can easily do this with vinegar, just mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray it on the window glass. Wipe it with a microfiber cloth (or old newspaper, if you have some at home) until it's streak-free. You can also add a few drops of essential oil to the mixture, so you can remove dirt and also provide a pleasant scent in one fell swoop.
Get to know citric acid too!
Remove all dirt from the microwave!
All you need is a single lemon to completely clean your microwave. Cut your lemon in half, squeeze a little juice into a bowl, then put it in the microwave and microwave for a minute. After that, leave the door closed for another 3-4 minutes - and by the time you open it, you can wipe the inside clean with a damp sponge. After the process is complete, it's a good idea to leave the door open for a short while to let the citric acid air out before heating food inside.
Make a descaling solution with it!
There are few tasks in cleaning that are more hated than descaling. And as long as the world is a place, there will be scale in your home. Fortunately, citric acid (in powder form) is a great way to combat it! To descale your washing machine, simply run an empty wash cycle with a few spoons of citric acid in the drum. To descale kitchen and bathroom surfaces, make a mixture: take a 100 ml spray bottle, add two teaspoons of citric acid and pour warm water over it. Shake well, then spray the surface to be treated.
Scrub with lemon!
You can make an effective scrubbing agent by mixing lemon and salt. Try it on your cutting board, for example: sprinkle a little salt on it, then rub it thoroughly with half a lemon and rinse it off. This will not only remove visible stains, but also any food residue that has become embedded in it.
Make it into an effective floor cleaner
Mix a little olive oil with half a cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice and hot water and you have a floor cleaner. This super chemical-free mop will even bring your hardwood floors back to life!
Make sure that the cleanliness of your home doesn't come at a high price.
...which our planet and your own health will pay for. Store-bought cleaning products usually come in single-use plastic packaging, so by regularly purchasing them, you are unwittingly contributing to plastic pollution.
Traditional cleaning products also contain a lot of chemicals. These end up in the drain when you clean your home and poison the environment. Not to mention that you also come into direct contact with them and inhale them.
In our last article , we discussed at length how harmful these cleaning products are to your health, especially your skin and lungs. If you haven't read it yet, catch up quickly: this is how you pay the price for a clean home if you're not careful about what you're cleaning with.
