Keeping our homes clean and tidy is about much more than just aesthetics. A clean home creates a much more pleasant and welcoming environment. Tidiness helps us to relax and unwind and contributes to a positive mood. But a messy and untidy home can cause stress and frustration for many people.

Regular cleaning and dusting helps prevent the build-up of bacteria and allergens. This can be particularly important for people with allergies or asthma. Dust mites, pollen and other allergens are less likely to spread in a clean home, which can help keep you healthy.

A clean home is easier to find and easier to keep tidy. It takes less time to search and tidy, so you have more time for what really matters.

Microfibre wipes are an excellent solution for removing dust and dirt quickly and efficiently. The electrostatic charge of these wipes helps to attract dust and other dirt, making it easy to clean a variety of surfaces.

You can also use microfibre cloths to clean furniture, tiles and mirrors. The microfibre material removes dust and dirt quickly and effectively, without leaving behind lint or streaks.

Sorting and sorting

The first step can be sorting and sorting. Go through each room and decide which items you want to keep, sell, donate or throw away. To help you do this, we have 3 cardboard boxes that can be easily moved from room to room. By banishing unnecessary items, you can rid your home of clutter and make everyday cleaning easier.

How to prepare for the clean-up?

  1. Broom and dustpan: dust mites and other dirt under furniture can be easily swept away, and a broom can be used to get rid of cobwebs.
  2. Vacuum cleaner and dust bag, if necessary: using a vacuum cleaner is more effective when you need to thoroughly clean a larger area and it can also be used to really clean carpets.
  3. Microfibre wipes: the microfibre wipes mentioned earlier are excellent for removing dust and dirt quickly and efficiently.
  4. Cleaning products: choose cleaning products that are effective at removing grease, stains and dirt and are also harmless to your health. It is important to read the label and follow the instructions for safe use. Remember to make sure that your cleaning products do not contain toxic chemicals. 1. Baking soda: You can freshen up carpets and upholstered furniture by simply spritzing them with baking soda a few hours before vacuuming. Baking soda removes unpleasant odours, so it can be a big help when you're cleaning.

Let's make a battle plan for the clean-up!

You don't need to bomb the whole apartment in a day, it's much easier and more cost-effective to go room by room, area by area.

To make the cleaning more efficient and to save time, it is a good idea to make a cleaning list, identifying the main tasks for each room. Here are some examples:

 Bedroom

  • Folding the bed and changing the sheets: change the sheets, shake out the blankets and pillows to remove dust and dirt. If possible, air out the bed linen outdoors before putting it up.
  • Cleaning surfaces: clean your furniture thoroughly with a microfibre cloth and cleaning products.
  • Cleaning windows, sills and mirrors: use CYCLE window cleaner and microfibre cloth to clean windows and mirrors.
  • Vacuuming the floor: don't forget to move the furniture and pick up any dust mites hiding under the bed!
  • Cleaning curtains
  • Refreshing your mattress with baking soda

Let's go step by step

Bathroom

  • Toilet cleaning: use a toilet cleaner to thoroughly clean the toilet bowl and toilet seat. Remember to use the brush to wipe hard-to-reach places.
  • Cleaning the sink and shower: use a bathroom cleaner and microfibre cloth to clean the surfaces of the sink and shower.
  • Cleaning mirrors and windows: use a glass cleaner and microfibre cloth to clean mirrors and windows.
  • Cleaning the floor: vacuuming and a thorough mopping.
  • Browsing and sorting shelves
  • Use a strong descaling agent on taps and tiles, clean the shower cubicle and remove mould from tile grout.

These are just a few examples of how to create a cleaning checklist, each person can adapt the list to their own needs and priorities.

Cleaning the kitchen

We can start the process with the kitchen, which for many is perhaps the most daunting part of the clean-up.

The first step is to start your favourite playlist, music that can spice up an otherwise boring chore with singing and dancing. Everyday cleaning tasks such as washing up, cleaning the cooker and tidying up are good to do before the hard work starts. Take down the curtains and soak them while you're in the kitchen, which can absorb a lot of greasy dirt in this room.

TIP:

  1. The power of vapour and lemon

Vapour and lemon are excellent natural cleaners that can help get rid of stubborn stains and dirt. A little hot water and a few lemon slices can do amazing things: the steam from the hot water and the citric acid help dissolve grease and stubborn stains. Using them makes cleaning the microwave, for example, infinitely easier, and the fresh scent of lemon creates a pleasant and clean atmosphere.

Let's unpack all the cupboards, see what we're up against, and also make it easy to flick through the cupboards. Don't forget the tops of cupboards, because even though you can't see it, a lot of dust and dirt gets trapped there, contributing to the air quality in your home. If you want to avoid a future of suvicidal clutter, put newspaper on top of your cupboards - trust us, you'll thank yourself in the future. Clean from top to bottom, thoroughly wipe down the inside of the cabinets, especially the handles, as these are the ones we come into contact with the most. After the upper cabinets, it's time to give the backsplash, worktops and lower cabinets a thorough sweep.

Wipe down your storage and kitchen appliances, too, to make sure everything is clean. When repacking, it's worth checking expiry dates and repacking in a way that's as handy and efficient as possible for us when cooking. Try to minimise what's on your kitchen worktop, reducing the chance of it getting dirty and making it easier to keep everything clean in the future.

You can easily clean your oven by smearing bicarbonate of soda paste mixed with water on the dirt and letting it work its magic before wiping it off with a sponge.

Refrigeration

According to the NÉBIH's 2021 survey, we produce 65.50 kg of household food waste per capita per year in Hungary. One great way to reduce food waste is to freeze leftovers so that food can be eaten later instead of going in the bin. If your freezer is already full of mystery bags and ice cream cartons, it might be time to give your fridge and freezer a good clean. Don't worry, we can help!

Prepare in advance!

Before you start cleaning, try to plan your weekly menu so that you use up as many of the ingredients you have accumulated in your fridge and freezer as possible.

Once you have emptied the freezer and fridge completely, turn off the power and leave the door open to allow any ice inside to melt.

Take out the shelves and compartments, you can easily clean them in the bath or shower.

If you have snow and ice covering the back of your freezer, you can even use a hair dryer to speed up the thawing process, taking the right precautions. Do not use knives or sharp tools when cleaning the freezer as this could damage the appliance!

You can wipe the inside of the freezer with a mixture of baking soda and water to neutralise odours.

Once the fridge and freezer have been switched on, it takes at least an hour to get food back to the right temperature.
