Today, forced into our homes, it is easy to consume far more water than we are used to. We also wash our hands more often, for longer, often with running water; we cook at home, clean more often, have time to bathe the dog, do things in the garden, and even fill the children's baths when the weather is nice. This leaves a mark not only on our water bill, but also on the Earth's water resources in the long term. But we believe we can also strive for sustainability in quarantine!
- Let's look for leaks! A dripping tap can waste up to 15 litres of water in a day, and a quietly leaking toilet can waste hundreds of litres! A serious leak in the toilet is of course noticeable, but you can also spot a small leak by dropping some food colouring into the tank: if the cup turns a discoloured colour without flushing, you are wasting water
- Turn off the water while brushing! It's an incredibly simple trick, yet not everyone uses it: while the toothbrush is in your mouth brushing your teeth, it's completely unnecessary to run the water. Use running water to rinse and wash the toothbrush and rinse your mouth. It saves a lot of water!
- Do not use the dishwasher or washing machine half full! Only turn these machines on when they are running at full capacity. This will save not only water but also electricity consumption!
- Take shorter showers! Depending on the length of your shower, it can consume between 6-45 litres of water, not to mention extremely long showers. You can also save a lot by choosing the right shower head: a water-saving head mixes air with the water, increasing the pressure and reducing water consumption. Turn off the water while soaping and only turn it on again when rinsing off.
- Fill a glass or a bottle with water and put it in the fridge! That way, if you get thirsty, you don't have to keep running the water from the tap to cool it down. Just reach into the fridge and there you have it, nice and cold, refreshing water.
- Water the garden during the cooler part of the day. This way, less water evaporates from the hot soil and strong sunshine. People have long believed that Hungary has an abundance of fresh water, but unfortunately this is not so clear-cut.
- Do not wash with running water! Use a large bowl with water in which you can wash the dishes and then rinse them under running water. You can wash up with a fraction of the usual amount of water.
By saving water, we not only save money, but also the environment. When it comes to cleaning, CYCLE products make sure that we double our water conservation: our natural cleaning products are made from biomass, meaning that we don't need a single drop of clean drinking water to produce them. So we can clean our homes naturally, while preserving our water resources and our environment! After all, we don't want the ocean cleaner to work for nothing :)
